Fear versus Hope

From James Dobson all the way down to Hemet, California it seems that there are no shortage of otherwise good people who self-identify as Jesus-followers that are willing to gossip, spread lies and condemn others because of American politics.

Meanwhile, all I hear from McCain/Palin and from people voting for them is fear, fear and more fear.

That's all they got. If they had a good plan they'd share it. But they don't.

All they have is fear and they want you to feel it and feel it deeply.

Because they don't have the power to inspire you, or to cast a vision of what is possible, they want to cast a vision of what will happen if you don't let them have the power. That's not dignifying you...that's using you.

Well, I come from a long line of people who have been choosing hope over fear...for 2,000 years.

After the election, what will we be left with? Do these otherwise good people ask themselves what they will do if McCain wins?

What profit is it to gain the world but lose your soul?

Except, you're not even going to gain the world.

It is.

There are several things to consider in regard to this...are you on facebook? I've covered it extensively there.

The main thing: abortion restrictions are most lax in Western Europe, yet abortions are less common. In countries where abortion is very restricted or illegal, but that have economic hardship, abortion rates are higher.

The difference is that people are waiting for that "fifth vote" to overturn Roe v Wade, but that would only make the decision a matter of state legislation. Some would outlaw it, some wouldn't.

I personally think that Roe v Wade is a terrible court decision and should be overturned...and there are pro-choice people that agree!

The question is, what strategy is going to do the most to reduce abortions in the United States. I'm hopeful that the new President's policies will decrease abortion through education, family planning, support for adoption services, support for faith-based local solutions and through policies that elevate the poor, who are the likeliest victims of abortion.
