OKAY so quick debrief of our first actual day here.

last night we finally arrived and i took a shower (a two second cold one where u have to turn the water off in between rinse for lather - because we will run out - which we did today, no more showers for a week probably) then i crawled into a three bed bunk bed and slept under a green mosquito net. woke up today and hung around in the morning then started meeting the ladies as they slowly showed up.

they are hilarious and alot of fun. we all sat around and learned to crotchet with them. But the first thing on the list was to kill three chickens for lunch - i did not actually cut the throat (they were alive) but three of my team mates did (i watched)and then me and ryan wecker plucked all of the feathers off (a very intersting experience) and boiled them. (over coal - no stove - so it took a couple hours) Then we took them out and cut them up (they eat every little bit and give the Gizzards to the guest - because that is the best part of the chicken).

we continued to crochet with the ladies then at about four (many hours later) we ate: chicken, sweet potatoes, rice, pop from a glass bottle and some very delicous sauces. (it was a little hard to eat the chicken because i def still could smell the raw dead one on my hands from earlier). - its crazy how much effort goes into a meal here.

i ate some delicous mangos that fell fresh out the tree (very good but leave alot of strings in ur teeth which the ladies thought was hilarous)

then the ladies put on a show for us - a drama and Acholi dance and many songs which they wrote.

then we went to Judith's home ( she is the project manager here, her sister Jolie is head at Invisible Children) - we had african tea (delicious) and met with her dad who told us all about the Acholi culture and the history of the war. (an insane time - long and i def feel asleep a bit cause of the jet lag- but still very amazing to hear)

we just got back and i'm about to debrief and crash.

a crazy good day - i'm really excited and so blessed. - the ladies are awesome and the guys are awesome. - its very relaxing here. spent the whole day hanging out - i know we have a crazy weekend coming up which i will explain later - but the Acholi people in Gulu are very friendly and very welcoming and very appreciate of us being here. the whole vibe is slow and relaxed - very nice for a change. i feel at peace. :)

i'm getting inspired for the doc - please please keep that in ur prayers.

I love you guys so much :)

Tell all I said Hello. and i love them!

- See you soon!

- Bethany
